Spinal Manipulation almost always will not cause any pain or discomfort. The important thing for the patient to keep in mind is to remain relaxed, because stiffening impedes the adjustment process. Manual Manipulation is the primary chiropractic treatment for spinal pain. Spinal Manipulation relieves pressure on joints, reduces inflammation and improves nerve function. Proper alignment, achieved from spinal manipulation, allows our body, nerves, immune system and minds to function at its highest level.
Therapeutic Ultrasound* therapy uses high frequency sound waves to create and apply heat within the area of treatment. Ultrasound treatment has shown beneficial in reducing inflammation, increasing blood flow, decreasing pain, decreasing stiffness and decreasing muscle spasm. All of which have a positive effect on the healing process.
Electrical Stimulation(ESTIM)* is preformed by placing electrodes over the desired muscles of treatment. An electrical current is then transmitted into the soft tissue and local muscles. The electrical current causes muscles to experience quick and small contractions. During treatment patients often feel a slight tingling or prickly sensation, that quickly subsides after when treatment is over. The contractions cause muscles to tire and become relaxed relieving the patient of pain and spasm. The process is also said to release endorphins and clear metabolic waste from the treatment area. Overall, ESTIM works well for both acute and chronic pain. Back and neck muscles are common treatment areas however, ESTIM can be used on many areas of the body.
Proper nutrition and supplementation plays an important role in our overall health. Chiropractic care focuses on the body as a whole, and as a part of that process Dr. Miller may provide specific recommendations, nutritional supplements and healthy food choices.
Traction therapy is often utilized to reduce pressure within the spine. Manual or auto-traction of the neck and spine is often used to reduce disc bulges which cause radiating pain into the arms or legs. Traction therapy relives nerve pressure and reduces radiating pain, often saving many patients from undergoing surgical procedures. This therapy is also usually beneficial for those suffering from headaches.
Kinesio taping is used for neuromuscular re-education and to assist with proper body biomechanics. Secondarily, it also provides stabilization of an injured or weak area of the body. Utilized by many professional, collegiate and high school athletes today, kinesie tape may be utilized on our patients to achieve strengthening, re-education and proper joint movement.
